Plans for a potential Las Vegas NBA arena began to take shape last week with the release of architectural renderings of a potential venue to be located on the Strip.
The project would include an 18,000-seat arena and also feature the Strip’s tallest hotel tower as developers try to lure an NBA franchise to Sin City. Plans call for an overall entertainment venue that would include three hotel and condo towers, an NBA arena, a 6,000-seat theater, and 120,000 square feet of convention space.
Another Sports Venue On Strip
The renderings also show floor plans for the towers along with guest rooms, villas, a sky lounge, and condos. The exterior of the towers utilizes “silver glass and gold glass on a curtain wall system,” according to design firm Steelman Partners.
The project, which is known as LVXP, would be located on property that was formerly used as a Wet n Wild water park, located south of the Sahara Casino and north of the new Fontainebleau Casino Resort on 27 acres across from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
“We are honored to be stewards of this significant milestone in the city’s legacy,” CEO of LVXP James R. Frasure Jr. said after the original plan for the project was announced in May. “Our commitment is to create a destination that captures the essence of Las Vegas and provides lasting benefits for the community. For me, this endeavor is more than a project – it’s a promise to uphold the spirit of innovation and enthusiasm that defines our local culture.”
The project still needs official approval from Clark County officials as well as FAA approval for the proposed hotel tower.
It also needs the NBA to sign off on a franchise. Both LeBron James and Shaquille O’Neal have expressed interest in owning a Las Vegas team, as the city is frequently mentioned as a site for league expansion and currently hosts the NBA Summer League.
Adding the arena would bring the third professional sports venue to the Las Vegas Strip with construction of a new baseball stadium for the MLB’s Oakland A’s expected to begin construction next year at the former site of the Tropicana. The Las Vegas Golden Knights currently play at the T-Mobile Arena which is adjacent to the New York-New York Casino and Park MGM.
