Las Vegas NBA Arena at Rio? • This Week in Gambling

Published on:

It seems Sin City cannot get enough when it comes to professional sports. Now there are rumors of a Las Vegas NBA arena set to be built near the Rio. If true, that would be a step toward getting an NBA franchise, either by relocation or (more likely) league expansion in the near future. But can we trust these rumors? I mean, it’s not like they haven’t been circulating for years.

Sources at some reliable blogs are sharing that the Oak View Group is moving forward with plans for this Las Vegas NBA. Previously, they had announced a huge, multibillion dollar project south of The Strip on 25 acres near I-15 and I-215. Apparently, that deal is apparently no more. Instead, the proposed location of the new venue would be on the 22 acres next to the Rio. We’ll see.

Dreamscape, who own the Rio, have not uttered a word about this supposed project. Nor have the confirmed any rumors that the Oakland A’s baseball organization were in talks with them either. of course, there’s been no denial either. Just a lot of silence, so take that for what it’s worth.

Now, these sorts of rumors pop up from time to time, so while the possibility of a Las Vegas NBA arena will probably become a reality at some point, this may not be the right time or the right rumor. And even if the new arena is built close to the Rio, there’s still nothing in the works to get the city an NBA team to play there.

In conclusion, we’re happy to report on these happy rumors, so long as our readers understand that’s what they are: rumors. But the big story here is probably how the pursuit of these professional sports teams, along with events like F1 and the Super Bowl, are pushing prices in Las Vegas higher and higher. So why would we be excited about the possibility of yet another team?
